Detailed information about this program

Developed by ACUHO-I subject matter experts and built upon the foundation of the core student affairs educator certification (CSAEd™), it is a specialty credential for demonstrating continuous learning, competency, and knowledge in established domains which are essential to success in the complex and evolving landscape of campus housing and residential life work. The campus housing and residential life certification was built upon the foundation of the core student affairs educator certification content. The core student affairs educator certification (CSAEd™) is then a required prerequisite to obtain and maintain this specialty certification. Eligible individuals may concurrently apply for the core CSAEd™ and CSAEd-HRL™ specialty credentials. Certificants currently holding the core CSAEd™ credential may also apply for the CSAEd-HRL™ speciality certification at a separate, later date. Eligibility Requirements - Educators with a master’s degree and three years of student affairs/services work experience; educators whose highest degree earned is a bachelor's or an associate's and four years of student affairs/services work experience. - Eligibility requirements are the same for both core and speciality student affairs educator certifications. The core certification is a prerequisite for all specialties. Maintaining Certification and Recertification: Certification includes demonstrating competencies and knowledge in established domains, as well as dedication to ongoing learning and commitment to ethical practice. Student affairs work both generally and within campus housing and residential life is complex and regularly changing. CSAEd-HRL™ credential holders are expected to engage in continuing education about new and emerging trends in the profession. Recertification occurs every five years. It involves demonstrating the minimal amount of core and specialty area continuing education credits and ethical practice.
