Ukrainian Culture Through Literature

This course introduces students to Ukrainian culture through the exploration of original literary sources from the times of medieval Kyivan Rus (9th–13th c.) to the present (21st c.). By reading chronicles, epics, folktales, poetry, drama, and modern prose, students will trace the evolution of Ukraine’s cultural identity, traditions, and politics across centuries of foreign domination, national revival, and the country’s current struggle for survival.
