This course follows the evolution of video art from the analog to the digital era. Video art that explores and critiques technologies of spectacle (cinema, television, the internet and virtual reality) is a special focus among the artworks that students view, discuss, research and interpret. Students learn how to identify and theorize liveness, closed circuit transmission, compositing and playback as medium-specific characteristics of video art.
